Following the Prime Minister and Chancellor’s comments on insurance during the Government press conference yesterday evening, this resulted in a number of queries from clients.

As insurance brokers, we thought the comments were vague and as such have been seeking clarification from the Association of British Insurers.

The ABI have issued this further comment;

“The Chancellor’s statement today is consistent with our statement this morning where we said in the event businesses have the right cover, this type of notification could help make a claim.

But, as the Chancellor acknowledged, the vast majority won’t have purchased extended cover and this remains unchanged.”

So basically, what the Government were actually saying was that if cover is in place, the Insurer will honour the claim. We appreciate the confusion the press comments have caused hence we were keen to issue the hospitality sector with an update.

Sector Associates are continuing to work around the clock to handle insurance queries and support the industry with advice and guidance.
